- Remember first impressions count
- Ensure your letter is set out in a professional manner
- The quality of your paper should be as good as your CV
- Ensure you put your contact details so they know where to reply too
- Check for spelling and grammatical errors
- Keep it brief and to the point.
CV WRITING HINTS AND TIPS
A cv is your passport to securing your perfect job. The first 20 seconds of a potential employer looking at your CV is vital. Ensure you get it right first time as you may not get a second chance.
- Make the layout simple and easy to read, do not write more than 2 pages
- Use bullet points and make it factual (use the interview time to elaborate on facts)
- Ensure you check for spelling and grammatical errors
- Put your most recent job at the top and work backwards
- Account for gaps in your CV if you have had time out state why
- Never exaggerate the truth they will find out through referencing!
- Don't use too much humour if you must use any, your potential employer may not share the same humour as you!
INTERVIEW HINTS & TIPS
- Always be prepared, and arrive in plenty of time to gather yourself. 10 minutes is usually sufficient.
- Dress appropriately, you can never offend by over dressing
- Ensure you have researched the company, it shows you are interested in the company and not just applying for any job.
- Know the level of personnel who is interviewing you. Is it the MD, HR or Office Manager etc
- Greet the person with confidence, make eye contact and use a firm hand shake.
- Use this opportunity to see if the company is right for you. Turn the interview around as this is your time to ask as many questions as possible.
- Prepare a list of questions relevant for the position and the company
- Be polite and friendly, remain professional at all times but most importantly be yourself.
- If the position is of interest to you don't be afraid to tell them.
- Ask for feedback at the interview, what reservations do they have if any about your skills and experience?
- Remember there reservations may not be relevant and this is your opportunity to counter them.
- At the end of the interview ask what the next step will be.
- Before leaving the interview thank the person for there time, shake the persons hand and leave the interview knowing you have given 100%
